Definitely not a Y

Although my husband will disagree wholeheartedly, I would classify myself as somewhere between a "girly girl" and a "tom girl."  I love fashion and shopping and pedicures and cosmos.  But I am also a former college athlete who has been known to do a keg stand or two.  Not to mention I HATE lipstick.

My given name is Cassandra however I have gone by Casey my entire life.  Except when I am in trouble and I get the full first and middle name followed by an exclamation point from my mother. There have been two very memorable times in my life that my name has confused people as to what sex I am.

The first time this happened, I was in 2nd grade at a brand new school (at which my mother was the 8th grade teacher btw).  I became fast friends with a sweet red-headed boy named Matt. Looking back, I cannot help but smile when I think about how kind and welcoming Matt was to me. A month or so into the school year Matt's father called my Mom to see if I could come over to play. He went on to tell Mom how Matt had not stopped talking about Casey since school started and how glad he was Matt had a new friend.

After feeling comfortable with my Mom and the fact that neither she nor I were serial killers, Matt's Dad asked if I could spend the night. It had never occurred to Matt's Dad that Casey was a girl. Matt and I had a blast playing that following weekend, but I went home when the street lights came on to sleep in my own boy-free bed.

The second time I was mistaken for a stinky boy was the summer before my freshman year in college.
I convinced my Mom that there was no way I was getting stuck with a roommate that I didn't like so she let me apply for a single dorm room.  A month before school was set to begin I received my room assignment in the mail.  Not only did they give me a roommate, his name was JOE! I let Mom take care of that one too.

So, I'm Casey, the girl.  Casey the boy was my sister's boyfriend. And little Casey was my another sister's best friend.  I'm definitely Casey the girl.
